‘Flex’ Review: Kizz Daniel speaks on his wants for peace and good vibes in his new funk-infused song

Kizz Daniel - Flex

In “Flex” Kizz Daniel carefully details his desires for the mellow and carefree elements of life as he longs for the ability to simply flaunt his lavish lifestyle whilst procuring minimal levels of restlessness in the process. The repetition of the phrase “Make nobody hala for my head” within the track is most telling as it offers widespread notice of his yearning for peace. This track is an anthem for all who would rather have a good time than hold grudges or get into fights, Kizz Daniel asks “se kayawo fun won” which translates in pidgin to “make we spend them money”, which is the slogan of ardent party-goers in Nigeria.

Sonically the track features an enticing mesh of Afro-pop and Funk as DJ Coublon combined the new sub genre with Fela Kuti inspired production as the instrumental was seen to feature arrangements focused on groove; subtle jazz elements were present also and these were most prominent in the saxophones use mid track.
